Dear All
Last night we suffered a technical issue that caused a small loss of data. We can only apologise for this happening, but trust you’ll understand that we are bound to experience a few, inevitable teething problems. I would be more than happy to explain these issues in detail, but I don’t understand a word of the techno-speak that Steve and the web development boys use as a means of communication. Apparently the back -end merged with the front-end and there was lots of heavy loading, or something like that.
So, for anyone wondering why the fledgling groups have been stripped of their posts, it wasn’t intentional, and we’d love you to repost your thoughts so we can all start having some fun with the new community. Starting with the ‘Ask DR’ thread –to which I’d written a lengthy response to your questions about driving skills videos.
Tell us what you think..
When you post a comment, it will also appear in your News Feed on Facebook (if you so choose), enabling you to take the conversation to where your friends already are. Thereafter you can continue discussing on Facebook and the conversations between SkiddMark and Facebook will be auto-magically synched, regardless of where the comment was made.

August 22, 2008Just to add to Chris’ comments, we are currently migrating all of our videos this evening over to a new media server, so for the next 4-6 hours there will be some disruption to DR TV. Thereafter however we are expecting a significant improvement in their performance.
Then we are moving the whole web site onto a more powerful dedicated platform with significantly more bandwidth, which will accomodate the large increase in site visitors that we have experienced recently.
And finally, next week we launch our first digital magazine using a new platform which should solve the problems some of you experienced when viewing our previous publications within certain browsers. We will eventually migrate past issues, but in the meantime if you experience difficulties reading Issues 001 – 017, then you can solve these by closing down one or more of the windows in your browser.
It’s all change here at DR.

August 22, 2008I’m afraid I can’t find the ‘Ask DR’ or any other place for feedback on DR. Which is one reason I want to provide some feedback…it might just be me, but I find the website more than a little confusing. I click on a ‘feature’ on the home page and don’t get what I expect – the feature -but a page that looks just like the home page, and so I have to click again. It’s a minor thing, I know, but it could be easier.
And – the features are well written, great photography and all that, but they’re a magazine. And you’re a website. Square peg, round hole… For me that format just doesn’t work on-line, it’s clumsy and doesn’t use my screen format efficiently; it feels very old-fashioned; and it gets in the way of the writing and the photography.
Please make the site simpler. You have the right ingredients to make this a must-read, but overly ‘creative’ website design gets in the way. Your writing and photography skills deserve better!
Good luck

August 23, 2008Do you know what? I think you guys putting on a bloody good show. Teething problems are simply that and remember, you are creating a unique and in many ways, ground breaking “rag”. I am enjoying watching this evolve almost as much as i do the content. You have obviously put a shed load of effort and commitment into DR and if this is what you have managed to achieve in under 4 months then you all deserve a massive pat on the back. Sorry if this sounds a bit sycophantic but there we go. Have a big “thank you” from me.

August 23, 2008It just show that it takes all sorts, for me the magazine format is my favourite and most impressive but it’d be a boring old place if we all liked the same things I suppose.

August 23, 2008Guys
I found this website today and have been on it for ages.
You have done a first class job, don’t take any criticism re- teething problems as that is bound to happen.
A true website for Petrolheads.
n.b I have already paid my 14.99 keep up the good work.

August 27, 2008I concur that the site could be made simpler. Sometimes, less is more.
Also, the features’ “magazine” could indeed use the screen more efficiently. Maybe it’s my browser (Firefox), but the pages don’t adjust to the screen size quite as well as I think they should.
Anyway, the contents (both written and video) are truly excellent, as is the reader’s involvement. Congratulations!

August 28, 2008I think the whole ‘magazine in a web page’ format is superb. I like individual pages and not having a screen crowded with content. Truly the next step in news media, congratulations.

September 1, 2008Some bits of the site still don’t seem to want to play for me, but overall its very interesting, and the journalism is … what I might expect (I mean that positively).
Would be good to have a contact section so we know how to pass on comments, though perhaps that’s the point of the “dialogue” part.
