    hey Chris. You guys said you’d be competing at the
    Dubai 24 hours. I’m assuming you will be driving. Will be there myself, what car will you be in? Have you raced in Dubai before? I bet you’ll like it, been around the track a couple times on trackdays

    @Karim Dandashy:

    Hey Karim, it’s Richard who will be competing in the Dubai 24hrs (as he did last year). He’s driving one of the RJN GT4 Nissans (if I remember correctly), but I’m sure he’ll soon correct me when he answers this post himself.

    Hi Karim,

    Yep Steve’s right, I’ll be driving the second of RJN Motorsport’s GT4 Nissan 350Zs. I did the race in the same car last year and really enjoyed it. The rain was crazy – much worse than anything I’ve raced in over here in Europe, which wasn’t really what I was expecting for the desert! Still, I’ve heard that the recent FIA GT round was abandoned due to floods, so perhaps we’ll get more UK-style weather this year…

    I’m not sure which pit garage we’ll be in, but I’ll make sure we post some updates in the Dialogue section, so keep your eyes peeled. If you come to the race be sure to say hi.

    Thanks guys for answering so quickly. A nice surprise. I passed by the race last year but the rain kept discouraging me. It’s a lovely track. I keep my eyes peeled for your car. GOOD LUCK! I hope it doesn’t rain this year, but to be honest, with the global warming, you never know! but probably will be foggy and quite cold. Good luck again, and will see you there

    Great video, must be the ideal circumstances for drifting, 400bhp BMW, greasy roads and an empty track… Lovely.

    Here’s me getting some budget sideways action

    Mark, this is still my absolute favourite drift video, Ueo Katsuhiro – a true masterclass, then of course there is Ken Block’s Gymkhana Practice.. Both excellent.

    Watching the AE86 just made me think about this:

    Couldn’t you make a Feature based on drift classics, and reviewing a modern proposition to the drift concept?

    @Pedro Sousa:

    The AE86 Hachi-Roku is a real legend isn’t it, there are lots of RWD cars that can be drifted under power but what was unique about the AE86 is the way drivers such as Ueo would drift it under ‘full throttle’ (because it had so little torque).

    I’m trying to imagine if there is anything modern that could be driven in a similar way..

    Steve, not sure if there is any car today to fulfil that…

    Modern times brought modern FWD lol

    It’s hard to find RWD in cheaper cars with ‘small’ engines! Maybe thats why (at least here in Portugal) Hachi-Roku’s are so over-priced!! Were talking 5000€ for a 20 year-old car waiting for a good restore!

    Excellent video Chris, you are a good teacher as well as a good broadcaster, for example I like the way you break the story down into manageable chunks (ie going in, staying in and coming out).

    Interesting that you find it is fine to let the wheel go for putting on opp lock, but you always feed it for the recovery. Would that apply in all cars?

    I am really surprised that you guys manage to run a set of tyres as long as you do – even when I go to a track I am inhibited from doing much practise by the cost of rubber (and I am not good enough to trust myself to practise on the road).

    Silverstone obviously have no problem with the noise of drifting. Several tracks seem to threaten to black flag you if you do much of it.

    Interesting point that.

    In principle, I’m against ever allowing the wheel to just fall through your hands, simply because it isn’t accurate and you could argue that you don’t have full control of the vehicle. Of course the reality is somewhat different. That is: when you’re teaching people oversteer (there’s a difference to drifting I think) you need to teach them how to feed the wheel through their hands, primarily so they learn how to apply more than one-turn of corrective lock and cross their hands. It’s simple coordination really, but you do need to learn how not to get tangled-up in your own arms.

    Only once you’ve nailed this technique should you begin to let the wheel spin free. So, what I’m saying is, I should have spotted that clip in the vid (in fairness, for the first stage example, I did do apply the lock by crossing my hands and navigating around the wheel) and replaced it with one that fitted the message!

    I don’t think I’ll ever tire of doing skids in cars…

    @chris harris:

    Hi Chris,

    My first post here.

    First of all – it’s brilliant the three best car journalist have their own site. The three of you were actually my favorite writers for evo and the Porsche magazine before you left.

    The quality of your articles definitively has not dropped since you opened your own magazine!

    Loved your drift-video – and your new car!

    Just wanted to say, Chris, that I think I am hearing a whining noise getting louder throughout your drift-video. I wondered if it’s the differential that doesn’t like the treatment and the heat the drifts develop? It seems the whine changes in pitch with the revs. Perhaps it needs some new oil? I’m not that technically minded.

    I hope it’s just me being paranoid on your behalf.

    Best regards
    Chris.
