Ford Supervans

Someone at Ford must have had a helluva sense of humour to sign these monsters off. Meet the white vans from hell…

I can’t believe no one has commented on this yet! It’s got to be worth 5 mins of your life just to see Supervan 1 three-wheeling its way through the Thruxton chicane. Such a shame the van has disappeared. Perhaps someone will build a recreation. Imagine it running the hill at the Goodwood Festival of Speed!

A bit of motor racing trivia here, but its driver in the video is Chris Craft, the guy who went on to build the Rocket with Gordon Murray.

Looked like a giggle in the wet, but surely 0-60 in 7 seconds is a bit pedestrian for 435bhp??

Supervan II tickled my fancy nicely though, oh lordy what a noise.

I spent an engaging few hours with Mr Craft last year. Never knew he drove this thing: I’ll get some quotes from him about it asap. It has the roll stiffness of a rotten banana

I spoke to CC last year after I’d driven Supervan 3 (which is Supervan 2 fitted with a supercharged Prosport 3000 motor in place of the proper Group C race motor). Somewhat disappointingly he didn’t recall a great deal. Perhaps racing in the Seventies is a bit like living through the Sixties: if you can remember it you weren’t really there. Or trying hard enough ;-)

Great stuff – Love the cheesy 70′s music in the chase sequence!

Our Story

Starting with Drivers Republic in 2007, followed by SkiddMark two years later, our goal has always been to support content makers and automotive brands as they transform towards an all-digital future. We do this through enabling aspiring writers, curating great content and disrupting conventional brand marketing to filter out the noise and encourage investment in areas that will benefit those who are passionate about driving.
