  • DR TV: Aston Martin V12 Vantage First Drive

Click here!

Richard Meaden drives the new Aston Martin V12 Vantage on the roads near Aston’s HQ in Gaydon. Well I guess he needs all the practice he can get given he’s racing one at the Nurburgring this weekend.. (Ed – lucky s*d!)

    I didn’t read the report yet and I don’t know if Richard made any reference to the looks of the thing.

    We tend to fall easily in the Aston beauty. A lot is said about the baby Aston looking very, very good.

    Altough I didn’t spend too much time around one, but there is something about the Vantage that fails me to ring ‘that’ bell: I don’t apreciate those front LED’s.. The way their inside the front lamps has a strange outdated, overlooked feeling;
    As for the additions in the V12, specialy about de hood and rear tail… How did they look to you, Richard?!
    I’m not questioning “are they useful” because I’m sure they are! (the same applied to the front splitter)
    But, do they look balanced within the package?

    As for that red interior……….. Pure pornography!!!

    High praise indeed. It’s good to see that Aston can do some really crazy stuff now, that probably would not have won the approval of the stiffs watching over PAG.

    I remember watching the promo video a few months ago and the engine noise made the hairs on my arms stand at attention. I know that’s a bit of a cliché but it really did happen. Any new video in the pipeline.

    One more thing. I know you guys have talking about the GT2 a lot lately (not that I mind, but I do imagine Porsch GB is getting a little tired of you borrowing theirs), but a head to head test with this would be a stormer.

    I want that car. Infact, i’d just love to drive it, even once, but I know i’ll never get chance to so thank you Richard for giving us ‘some’ idea of what it’s like to be driven.

    When they announced the road version I expressed my disappointment, at yet another identikit Aston. Having seen the video and read the first drive I now see the point of this car, and actually it is probably the most desirable Aston.

    Trouble it it renders the DBS an irrelevance now (unless you’re a very wealthy James Bond fantasist), If you want a GT for crossing continents you buy a DB9 and if you want a sporty drive go for the V12 Vantage.

    I still think Aston need to come up with something new and not contiune to remix the same parts bin, (and I’m not counting the one-77 as this is a resource diverting side show).
