It’s a regular occurance here at DR, cars get delivered and then collected. It was particularly painful this morning since it was the keys of a Megane R26.R that were being prised from our (i.e. Neil’s) hands. So it was a pleasant surprise to find a familiar face involved in today’s collection..

May 20, 2009Pete had a good chat with Tony as he had a look around the R26.R and he initially didn’t seem that impressed – he was drawn to the bright red 3-point harness and roll-bars. He wore one of those Tony Mason scowls on his face as he tried to work out if it was pukka or just some boy-racer special, but eventually seemed to conclude that it was genuine.
Do you remember that in addition to being the BBC’s main rally commentator he was also a long-time presenter on Top Gear? Ah, those were the days.. (of woolly sweaters and beige trousers)

May 21, 2009@mark34bn Yep, that’s the one! Jewelled by Propaganda, from the Wishful Thinking album. It’s one of those few tracks that instantly conjures vivid mental imagery for me, in this case sitting in front of my parents’ TV watching Top Gear Rally Report when I was a kid.

No, Tony isn’t working for the Renault press office, he’s mates with the chap from Paragon who came to pick the R26-R up and was giving him a lift to come and get it.
There’s Arctic science stations that are easier to get to than the DR office!
