The new SV is an even wilder, even faster version of the already insane Murciélago – we’re the first to drive it on track. Richard Meaden swallows a brave pill and tries to beat the GT2′s time around the Silverstone GP circuit

June 4, 2009I really wasn’t looking forward to trying to get a proper lap time out of the SV, as cars don’t come much more intimidating than the Murci, but it was really, really good fun. It was also super-quick, as you can see from the times at the end of the video. It’s certainly going to take something quite special to dip into the 2:07s…

June 4, 2009The entry part is hilarious!!!
The car looks fabulous (as far as I can tell from the photos…….) and altough it’s an intimidating machine, it surely nailed the gt2 time!
Was it that ‘dificult’ to manage a time like that? Is the SV a car not to trust at high speeds? :p
Great Video!!!!

June 4, 2009That awesome V12 soundtrack is reminiscent of some of those great classic motorsport Le Mans racers!
Impressive driving by Mr Meaden, given the obvious intimidation factor of a 6.5-litre, V12, 661bhp, 212mph, £270k factory supplied Lambo!
Also, all due respect to the driver of the DR camera car, which looks like it clocked a lap in around 2:09…

June 4, 2009Well, as the toilet visit suggest, I was, er, rather nervous about what the SV had in store for me through Copse, Maggots/Becketts, Stowe, Club, Bridge and Woodcote. Truth is it was much friendlier and exploitable than I would have believed possible.
You’re always aware of that huge V12 slung behind you, but I was amazed at how stable the SV was, even through the quick direction changes. I even turned the ASR off, which I have to say I wasn’t expecting to want to do. Traction is total thanks to the all-wheel drive, and while you do occasionally feel the tail start to edge wide on turn-in, the chassis is so well sorted the front-end is always the first to let go, unless you’re clumsy or overly aggressive with the steering.
With more track time, slightly cooler ambient conditions – and a few more visits to the toilet – I reckon the SV would get well into the 7s, which is quite something for what remains the ultimate old-school supercar.
We took it to Wales yesterday, so you’ll have pages and pages of Gus Gregory’s beautiful photography to enjoy, including some epic flame-out shots! The car has just gone back to Lamborghini, so we’re all a bit down in the dumps. The car park just isn’t the same without it.

June 4, 2009Excellent vid, short but sweet! Is there a lap time board anywhere on DR? I can’t remember any of the times of previously featured cars.

June 4, 2009No lap time board as yet. We keep meaning to do that…. and will do shortly. The Top 5 are at the end of this video, with the SV a country mile quicker than anything else. Amazing result.
The new C2S with PDK did a 2:14.9 (from memory!). Now imagine sitting on a start/finish line, seeing an orange Lambo thunder by and then count to 7…. and a Porsche trundles by about 20mph slower. That’s how quick the SV is!

June 4, 2009Has anyone seen any pics of this car with the smaller wing or in any color other that orange for the matter. Just curious to see what it would look like. Though any attempts to make this car look more subtle would be completely relative.

June 5, 2009I watched this video last night and the film/data logger at the bottom seemed to be slightly out of sync?
I thought the toilet stop was to make sure you weren’t going to have an adverse effects on power to weight haha. I can proudly say I have visited that (or a similar) John on the GT2/LP560/Scud day.
Amazing watching the acceleration down the longer straights, quick quick quick!

June 5, 2009Yep, a few technical issues mean the data trace is slightly out. Thanks for pointing it out! But the numbers are accurate….. we’ll do better next time.
The little wing is a ducktail type affair that looks pretty cool. However, when we were speccing one up for a future DR long term test (I wish!) we all decided that despite our initial instincts we’d all go for the big wing. Not subtle, probably not clever…. but it looks brilliant in the context of the rest of the car.

June 5, 2009What a machine but if you are going to show in car show the whole bloody lap!!!!! I don’t want to see the SV pootling around behind a camera car I want to see Dickie working furiously!
Can’t wait for the feature

June 5, 2009The camera car was an Evo X FQ-330 SST driven absolutely flat-out, so ‘pootling’ might be a bit unfair! It’s doing about 160mph when it comes past on the straight!
For those who want to see the full in-car lap we’ll try to put that up later today.

June 6, 2009Not good enough drive faster! haha kidding of course. But to me (pure personal opinion obviously) I would rather see track side footage of the actual “flying” lap.
Apologies to the hard working evo driver

June 6, 2009Scotty, we share your frustrations, but time and resources are always limited. We were able to shoot the car-to-car footage during a track event (no timing, but lapping as fast as the Evo would go!) and then got 10-15mins of free lapping at the end of the day (in which we could do timed laps with no other cars getting in the way). That equates to an out lap, a couple of fliers and an in lap if we’re lucky.
We’d love to get trackside footage of the ‘hot’ lap, but that would require cameras and people on all the key sections of the circuit. The last time I checked the DR equipment store (i.e. two black holdalls) we didn’t have the BBC’s Grand Prix outside broadcast unit on stand-by!
Of course we’re always trying to get better footage, and as DR grows we’re confident that will happen, but for now we’ll just have to hope Lamborghini give us a Murci SV camera pursuit car

June 10, 2009Thanks Pete! As I suspected I would, I think I prefer the look of the smaller wing. Looks great in white too.

June 11, 2009I was lucky enough to be at Silverstone about to take part in a track evening when this was going round, the sound of it is spine tingling and is a fantastic, fantastic looking machine!
