Lexus LFA breaks cover

Well we’ve waited long enough and now it’s finally here, but what do you think? This is Lexus’ £336,000 LFA, yes that’s right more than any current production Ferrari, so it will need to be more than a little bit special.

“The LFA is a thoroughbred supercar, a machine engineered to achieve a single goal – to deliver a supreme driving experience,” said Chief Engineer Haruhiko Tanahashi. “Over the past decade we have pushed every boundary in pursuit of this goal and I believe we have created the most driver-orientated car we possibly could.”

The LFA is constructed using advanced carbon fiber materials weighing in at just 1285kg (delivering a power/weight of 373 bhp/tonne), and comes equipped with a front mid-engined 4.8 litre V10 engine that produces 552 bhp at 8,700 rpm, with peak torque of 354 lb-ft at 6,800 rpm. As you will hear from the accompanying video it’s fitted with a 6-speed sequential automated gearbox, which enables the LFA to reach 62 mph from rest in just 3.7 seconds (0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds) on its way to a top speed of 202 mph.

Toyota will make just 500 examples at rate of 20 cars per month “to ensure the finest build quality and attention to detail”, with each engine being assembled by a single engineer that will bear his signature as a testament. Buyers will be able to choose from a range of unique options and 30 different exterior paint colors and even items such as the audio system can be removed if you wish to reduce the car’s weight.
