Aston One-77 exceeds 220 mph in testing

Aston Martin are continuing to test the One-77 prior to it going on sale in summer 2010. One important criteria they are keen to crack is for the One-77 to become the ‘fastest ever’ production Aston Martin, and recent reports suggest they are already well ahead of target on that front.

The One-77 surpassed expectations during initial testing, comfortably breaking the 200mph mark. The high-speed testing has been taking place at a top secret proving ground in southern Europe and in a series of test runs completed last week the One-77 exceeded original expectations and recorded a 220.007mph (354.86kmh) top speed in dry but windy conditions, under the guidance of the Aston Martin engineering team.

Dynamic testing is now scheduled to continue into the New Year.

Powered by a new Aston Martin 7.3 litre V12 engine jointly developed with Cosworth, the One-77 is engineered to deliver breathtaking levels of power and performance. The dramatically styled two-door, two-seat sports coupe is based on an innovative new carbon fibre monocoque body structure and adopts new active aerodynamic technology.

The One-77 is set to be the ultimate expression of what Aston Martin stands for and will combine modern technology and design with craftsmanship and exclusivity to create one of the world’s most desirable automotive art forms.

Production of the One-77 is limited to a maximum of 77 individually numbered examples and will be priced at around £1 million.

I haven’t been sold on the One-77 until now. And, no, it’s not the top speed, it’s the new photos. I think it looks absolutely epic in that dark grey color.

Looks really ‘mean’ doesn’t it Mike?

I also found the regular press photos a little ordinary – those ones from Villa D’Este make it look classy, but they don’t make me want one, but paint it in Stealth Grey and all of a sudden it looks like it will eat other supercars for breakfast.

    Yum!  :)

Looks much more mean, yes, that’s it!

I thought it looked a little “rough”. It took me awhile to realize those were V8 Vantage headlights.
