Gerhard Berger set to join Renault F1 as Team Principal

Former Ferrari and Benetton driver Gerhard Berger is set to become the new team boss at Renault, according to French publication Auto Hedbo. Berger spent his last two active seasons in Formula One as an official driver for Benetton Renault team, during the 1996 and 1997 seasons.

The Austrian was previously Motorsports Director at BMW, and then part owner of Toro Rosso. Berger sold his 50% share back to Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz a year ago, due to being unsatisfied with the direction his team was going.

Renault recently sold a majority stake in its F1 team to Genii Capital led by businessman Gerard Lopez, securing its future in Formula One for the near future.
