Honda confirms HSV-010 GT to compete in Super GT Series

Honda have confirmed that they will compete in the GT500 class of the 2010 Japanese Super GT Series with its HSV-010 GT concept model. The front engine, rear-wheel drive Honda will be powered by a 3.4-litre V8 engine, as per Super GT regulations.

The HSV-010 GT concept was originally revealed as a possible replacement for the NSX road car, however with the state of the world economy and decline of the automotive industry, Honda have shifted their focus towards more mainstream vehicles, especially those with an environmental slant.

Super GT is normally only for production cars, but Honda seems to have found a loophole in rules that permit cars that are production ready (which this prototype NSX is), though not in production, taking part. It is not clear whether Honda will eventually be required to put the HSV-010 GT into production in order to continue participating in the series.

The Honda HSV-010 GT will debut in the opening race at Suzuka on March 20th-21st, 2010.

    Oh, what could have been.

Honda should at least be required to publicly reveal what the NSX successor would have been in production form.

I’m not sure it would have looked as good as the previous NSX, but I guess it’s salvageable..
