Introducing SkiddPlayer

SkiddPlayer is a community driven video platform designed to make it easy to discover, share and enjoy automotive videos online. Like many projects we become involved with, SkiddPlayer was borne from a frustration with existing sites.

We created the site at the beginning of January and have been running it as a beta release whilst identifying further content to include – there are now around 5,000 videos available to view with more being added every day.

Content is sourced from existing channels hosted on YouTube, Vimeo, blip.tv, or other proprietary video servers which provides specific benefits when forming what we call trending channels – just take a look at our F1 2010 channel to see what I mean.

There are three specific objectives behind SkiddPlayer; make it easier to discover good content, provide an environment that welcomes constructive conversation and provide recognition to those teams who are producing the kind of content you like.

The system perpetually gathers videos based on pre-defined topics, themes or channels and the content is then filtered based on quality, entertainment and interest to an enthusiast audience.

You can follow updates from SkiddPlayer on Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/SkiddPlayer), and you can also use Twitter hashtags to help shape the creation of new channels.

We will be using hashtags to create trending channels – in essence we will track the use of specific hashtags in your tweets and use these to create new channels of content as a topic or theme gains in popularity. Look out for further news of this on the SkiddPlayer site.

The site is still in its beta phase of development, with further features currently under development, and you can influence this feature list by contacting us with your suggestions. There are a few remaining browser-specific bugs that you may encounter, and we’d appreciate you bringing them to our attention when you find any. Just drop me an email at support@skiddmark.com with anything you spot.

You can read more about SkiddPlayer in the About pages, and we hope you find it as useful as we have.

Seams like a neat site, but why do I have to log in twice to leave a comment? That is, I can log into the site with X account, but I have to log into commenting section with, in my case, a different account (of which I don’t have one with the select choices).

Nice to have all the major car videos in one spot, though.

Mke, that’s one of the areas that we’re currently working on addressing – I decided to release it at this point so that people can take advantage of the videos being collected whilst we simplify the sign-on, video submission, user profile management and playlist functionality.

Which authentication system would you prefer to sign in with?
