Tesla Motors have confirmed this evening that 3 of their employees were killed today in a plane crash near Palo Alto.
It has now been confirmed that the company’s high-profile Chief Executive Elon Musk was not on the plane. Posting on Twitter in the past hour he said “We lost 3 employees in a plane crash today. We’re a small company and this is a tragic day. Our thoughts go out to their families” – Elon.
Musk went on to later say, “We are withholding their identities as we work with the relevant authorities to notify the families.”
The plane, a twin-engined Cessna 310, crashed in foggy weather shortly after takeoff from Palo Alto Airport. The plane crashed into two homes and several cars on the ground, causing a power outage and shutting down part of Facebook’s network.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families, friends and colleagues of those involved.

No offense to you, Steve, but I find it a bit irksome that something as trivial as Facebook would garner any attention in such a matter.

February 18, 2010I understand that the Cessna landed in a residential area crashing into a day-care centre and then into several parked cars. As far as the news reports were able to confirm, nobody on the ground was injured (thankfully!) and the only other consequence was the loss of communication services. People who were using Facebook at the time may have noticed an outage in which case they can connect the two stories.
I am glad nobody else was hurt, and hope that remains the case. I imagine that being such a smalll company, the other employees of Tesla at the moment will be inconsolable.
