Porsche 2010 997.2 GT2 RS is revealed

We’ve been eagerly awaiting this new Gen2 version of the 911 GT2 ever since we learned that Andreas Preuninger, who led both Gen2 redevelopments of the 911 GT3 and GT3 RS, had taken on the task to turn the next GT2 into the quickest production model Porsche has ‘ever’ made.

We will know soon enough if he has succeeded in this task, but those of you who joined us in meeting Andreas at Silverstone last July, will have little doubt that the new Gen2 car will be something very special.

Knowing Andreas’ passion for achieving the ultimate it comes as little surprise to find an RS version of the GT2 being offered from launch. According to the forum www.teamspeed.com, the GT2 RS will be built as a limited edition of just 300 units, weigh 90kg less than 997.1 GT2, deliver around 620PS and accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3.2 seconds, 0-125 mph in under 10 seconds and lap the Nurburgring in around 7 minutes 20 seconds.

Not too shabby eh?

A press release from Porsche is expected to reveal the full details on May 14th. According to a source at Autoblog, the car will cost around €240,000 when it goes on sale in the summer of 2010.
