Mitsubishi reveals its Evo replacement – the 345bhp i-MiEVO all-electric car

Yesterday Mitsubishi used its Lancer Evolution Facebook page to tease a new concept for the Evo – called the AF-J. Posing the question, “The next Evo?”, they promised to reveal the full car on Facebook at 15:00 GMT today.

Well the hour has come and gone and you see before you the Evo in all its majesty… Well it is April 1st, so don’t worry, it might never happen.

AF-J, is inevitably an acronym for April Fools – Joke, but Mitsubishi have been swift to deflect our doubts by renaming it i-MiEVO and then showing us a four-door monster, based on the i-MiEV electric car, powered by lithium ion batteries and using Permanent magnet synchronous drive to produce 345bhp and 800Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque.

The i-MiEVO sports alloy wheels, low-profile tyres and an aggressive body-kit featuring a redesigned front grille based on the one currently fitted on the Evo X.

A Mitsubishi spokesperson on their Facebook page said, “As a follow-up to our teaser post yesterday .. introducing our newest Concept reveal – previously held as an designation. Under special permission we have received go-ahead to also share the model name. Introducing the MY2015 Mitsubishi i-MiEVO concept. Our product planners and designers look forward to capturing all of your comments.”
