Images of Mercedes’ forthcoming C63 AMG Black Series have been leaked by the French edition of evo magazine, after a private test at Le Castellet in the South of France.
The new C63 AMG Black Series Coupe is less hardcore than the CLK 63 AMG Black Series it replaces, offering four seats and more in the way of everyday creature comforts. However none of the CLK’s aggression has been lost in the succession – wider flared arches, aggressive spoilers and huge brakes leave little of the C63 AMG Black Series’ performance credentials in doubt.
With around 510 bhp and 640 Nm of torque, the C63 AMG Black Series retains Mercedes’ 6.2-litre V8 engine rather than using the 5.5-litre turbocharged V8 fitted to more recent AMG models. Power is transferred via AMG’s latest wet clutch 7-speed MCT automatic transmission together with a standard limited slip differential.
The big news however is that unlike previous Black Series editions, this time supply will only be limited by demand – Mercedes are planning to price the model just under the £74,000 (105,000 euros) of the current E63 AMG and some 30,000 euros less than BMW’s 131,000 euro M3 GTS, making it a far more affordable proposition than its predecessor.
Now that the cat’s finally out of the bag, we should be able to share more details with you soon, meanwhile you can see further images at http://www.speedfans.fr.
