New BMW 3 Series live premiere

From the spy shots we brought you back in August, the F30 3 Series looks to be a conservative design, loosely based on the current 5 Series.

We’re expecting the usual range of four-cylinder and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, with an emphasis on smaller-capacity turbocharged powerplants boosted by the usual EfficientDynamics technologies including the new ECO PRO fuel saving mode, Auto Start-Stop function and a full gamut of BMW’s latest intelligent energy management systems.

We understand BMW will adopt a similar distinction between specifications including Urban, Sport and SE.

To mark the occasion, BMW have produced a series of short videos for each generation which you can see below.

  • You’re absolutely right. BMW learned, from those mixed reactions when the E90 was launched, that they cannot afford to rock the boat with the 3 Series – it’s the 8th best selling car in the UK market (according to recent SMMT figures), only trailing behind cars such as the Golf, Focus, Astra, Corsa and Polo.

We already know what it will look like and I’ve got a pretty good idea how it will drive, so Friday will probably be more newsworthy for its focus on engines and drivetrains. Now that BMW have sorted out a competitively priced 5 Series Hybrid, we can’t be far away from seeing the same technology fitted to it’s biggest seller.
