The new Veloster Turbo SE will be available in UK showrooms from September 24 priced at £21,995. It’s the first model to feature Hyundai’s 1.6-litre T-GDI engine with its high-compression, twin-scroll turbocharger and driving characteristics optimised to European tastes.
The Turbo SE offers 184bhp and 195lb ft (265Nm) of torque, mated to a standard six-speed manual transmission featuring wider gear ratios than the normally aspirated variant. The Turbo SE will reach a maximum speed of 133 mph and accelerate from 0-62mph in 8.4 seconds.
Engine response has been boosted at low speeds to deliver maximum torque between 1,500rpm and 4,500rpm, although fuel efficiency has been maximised in spite of the increased performance, with the Turbo SE offering 40.9mpg and CO2 emissions of just 157g/km.
Other changes made in its transition to European markets include firmer dampers for improved body control.
The Turbo SE wears new 18-inch alloy wheels with chrome inserts, complemented by a moulded side sill which lowers the Veloster’s stance and adds to its sporty appeal.
Inside, Hyundai are offering three colour options including White Crystal (Solid), Phantom Black (Pearl) and another Hyundai-first a Matt Grey finish. The Pearl and Matt Grey paints cost £445 and £525 respectively, while a tilt and slide panoramic sunroof is available for £950.
The Veloster Turbo SE also features re-designed leather seats, with the word “Turbo” embossed on both front seats. The driver’s seat is electrically adjustable with lumbar support.
