Introducing the 2013 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo (w/VIDEO)

Automobili Lamborghini’s President and CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, presented the new Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo at a press conference in the Atalaya Centre at the Navarra race circuit yesterday.

Joining him was the company’s Research & Development Director and Head of Lamborghini Motorsport, Maurizio Reggiani.

Reggiani introduced the improvements made to the 2013 Super Trofeo, which takes a significant step forward following extensive aerodynamic re-profiling and the addition of several new adjustable aerodynamic devices – including a ten-position rear wing.

  • The 2013 Super Trofeo is based on the latest Gallardo LP 570-4 road car and now provides up to 160kg more downforce.
  • The front air ducts have been re-modelled to improve the thermal efficiency of the race car’s brakes.

The sum of these upgrades is a 120% net improvement in aerodynamic efficiency over the 2012 Gallardo Super Trofeo, while better balance and cornering performance is achieved by increasing downforce by 128kg in the low downforce setup and 160kg in high downforce trim. Re-modelling of the brake ducts improves front brake cooling, which results in a 50% improvement in their thermal performance.

Reggiani emphasised that despite the advancement in racing technology, the Gallardo still provides an efficient and cost-effective platform for customer racing, “We have taken a significant step forward with the aerodynamic performance of the new Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo, but still the car stays true to our core principles. We believe that it is important to evolve the car, while ensuring Super Trofeo remains an attractive series in which to compete.”

While the Blancpain Super Trofeo series already competes in Europe and Asia, Winkelmann confirmed that Lamborghini are planning to expand the series into other markets, including the USA.
