McLaren’s newest production model, the convertible version of the car formerly known as MP4-12C, made its debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August. Since then it’s been awarded ‘Best Exotic’ by the editors of duPont REGISTRY and spawned a limited 12-car run Neiman Marcus Edition.
It’s the car to be seen in, but thus far McLaren has only shown it in Volcano Yellow and Volcano Red. So, without further ado, say hello to the 12C Spider in Azure Blue. Nice isn’t it?
The 12C Spider is powered by the same 616bhp 3.8-litre V8 twin turbo engine as the hard-top 12C, weighing just 40kg more. Performance is nigh on identical, as is its torsional stiffness and handling. The one big difference is the sound of the engine, which is amplified when the Spider’s convertible roof is fully open.
At a starting price of £195,500 the Spider is a £19,000 premium over the 12C Coupe, but for some the extra sensory stimulation and versatility will more than make up for the difference.
So what do we think? Yellow, red or blue? Oh to faced with such a decision..
