Opel will return to its roots in 2013, with two new single-make motorsport series – Opel ADAM Cup and Astra OPC Cup. The Opel Adam Cup will be run as part of the ADAC Rally Masters, with a specification closely matched to FIA R2 standards.

Based on the new Opel Adam, designed to compete with the likes of MINI’s hatchback and Citroen’s DS3, the rally cup version is powered by a 1.6-litre four cylinder engine producing around 143bhp, sending its power to the front wheels via a five-speed sequential gearbox.

The “ADAC Opel Rally Cup” will become part of the German ADAC’s talent development programme, providing the opportunity for young drivers to be discovered and win cash prizes and coaching to aid their motorsport career.

For circuit drivers Opel are introducing the “Astra OPC Cup”, based on the Astra OPC (VXR in the UK), the cars are engineered for the “VLN Endurance Championship” to run in their own class – “Astra OPC Cup”.

The highlight of the season will be the ADAC 24 Hours of Nürburgring, held from the 17th to 20th May 2013, with cash prizes, competitively priced spare parts and race support also on offer to competitors.
