Toyota will display the sporty, open-top Camatte57s concept car in the ‘Kids Life Zone’ at the International Tokyo Toy Show 2013, which runs from June 13 – 16 at Tokyo Big Sight in Koto Ward, Tokyo.
The “Camatte57s” concept is intended to bring parents and children closer together as they work on building their ideal car. Just like Meccano, only with a toy that measures 3.0 metres long, 1.44 metres wide is driven by an electric motor and seats 3 people.
Parents and kids can customise the Camatte57s – which consists of 57 detachable small lightweight panels – including choosing their own colour and design.
Camatte is based on the Japanese word for ‘care’ and to show how much they care Toyota have designed the accelerator, braking pedals and seats to be adjustable so that both parents and children can drive. To avoid the (very likely) probability of a crash, an adult seated in the rear-right seat assists steering and braking to help develop the child’s driving skills.
Fantastic! Now why didn’t they think of this 40+ years ago when I was hurtling down the pavement in a pedal cart..?
