Following last week’s news of Polestar’s Performance Concept Project (PCP) S60, the team has now released a short film of its unveiling at the Gothenburg City race arena on June 16th.
The Volvo S60 Polestar Concept Car is the road going sibling to Volvo Polestar’s TTA race car, which competes in the Swedish Racing Elite League series with a common space frame chassis, carbon fibre body and 420bhp rear-wheel drive V6 hybrid engine.
The road-going S60 Polestar is based on the standard 304bhp Volvo S60 T6, suitably re-engineered to meet the team’s vision of an optimal performance Volvo S60, with 501bhp and all-wheel drive.
The T6 engine has been tuned by fitting a Garret 3171 turbo, together with strengthened con-rods, modified inlet manifold and air intake, modified cylinder head and combustion chambers and a 3.5” stainless steel exhaust system. While the chassis receives a custom Öhlins suspension, lowered by 30mm, with 20mm and 40mm wider front and rear tracks, Polestar-Brembo 6-piston callipers at the front and 265/30R19 tyres all round.
The race-audience also the first to see the Volvo S60 Polestar, but the real reason they came was to watch round three of the 2012 TTA Elite Racing Series, the most prestigious event of the season and home race for the Volvo Polestar Racing team.
Volvo Polestar Racing achieved a 1, 3, 5 and 6th finish, clinching the Driver’s, Team and Manufacturer’s Trophies. It was the toughest race of the season so far and the perfect backdrop for the launch of Polestar’s most advanced road car concept.
Next race is at Falkenberg on 6th and 7th July.
