Rhys Millen, Pikes Peak International Hill Climb record-holder joins Chanelle Sladics, Winter Games Medallist, for a race down the treacherous Loveland Pass – in the snow.
The 12C Spider navigates the tricky, snow-covered route using its ‘Winter’ powertrain setting, which sets all electronic support systems to their maximum intervention level, with gear-shifts and torque control optimised to minimise traction losses.
Sladics’ snowboard required no such trickery, although she didn’t have the challenge of controlling a 3.8-litre V8 twin turbo engine producing 616 bhp.
At 11,990 feet (3,655 m) above sea level, Loveland is the highest mountain pass in the world that stays open during the winter months. Even so, you’re unlikely to spot any McLaren 12C’s performing a similar feat any time soon.
