Chevrolet price the Corvette Stingray at £61,495 (w/VIDEO)

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray coupé will arrive in Europe later this autumn with a suggested retail price of just £61,495. That’s somewhat of a hike from the $51,995 starting price paid by US customers, but still almost £12,000 less than the base 345bhp Porsche 911 Carrera.

Of course, the Stingray packs a little more punch than the 911, in fact its all-new 6.2-litre LT1 V8 engine produces 453bhp and 465 lb-ft (610Nm) of torque, so although it weighs slightly more, it still delivers a better power-to-weight ratio than the 911 Carrera or Audi R8. 0 to 62mph performance is quoted at less than four seconds.

In Europe, the LT1 is offered exclusively with a seven-speed manual with Active Rev Matching, which can be easily engaged or disengaged via paddles on the steering wheel. It anticipates the next gear selection (for upshifts and downshifts) and electronically ‘blips’ the throttle to match engine speed for a seamless gear change.

It also features the Z51 performance pack as standard, which includes: enhanced aero package for optimised high-speed stability, electronic limited-slip differential, tuned shock absorbers, springs and anti-roll bars, modified performance gear ratios, dry-sump oil system, differential and transmission cooling, larger front (19×8.5 inch) and rear (20×10 inch) wheels and tyres, with 345 mm (front) and 338 mm (rear) brakes.

The European LT1 Stingray also uses the latest magnetic-ride suspension, as well as performance traction control settings and a sports exhaust system.

Despite the Stingray’s competitive price, there are several options to consider including metallic paint (£600), tintcoat Paint (£1,000), a nav system (£1,450) and black aluminium wheels (£550).
