How much would you pay for a slice of Aston Martin motorsport history? A bona-fide racing car, perfect for display in your showroom, office reception, or even your front-room – assuming you own a big enough house.
How does £250k grab you? The same price as a well-specified Lamborghini Aventador. And for that price you can choose from a V8 Vantage GTE or a DBR 1-2, both sporting the iconic Gulf livery.
The cars are being offered by Aston Martin Racing and both are genuine collectibles. The V8 Vantage GTE competed at Le Mans in 2012 with Danish drivers Allan Simonsen, Cristoffer Nygaard and Kristian Poulsen at the wheel. It qualified 3rd and took the lead shortly before retiring, denying the team a likely podium finish.
The DBR 1-2 served as Aston Martin Racing’s test and development chassis as the team prepared for its accession to the LMP1 class for the 2009-2011 seasons. In race trim, the DBR 1-2 achieved 4th place at the 2009 Le Mans 24hrs, winning the Le Mans Series Championship during the same year. It remained competitive right up until its final victory at Petit Le Mans in September 2011.
Both cars have had their engine and gearbox removed, making it easier to transport and manoeuvre them into different venues and locations, although clearly they could be transformed back into operational race cars for a price.
You’ll be pleased to hear there’s more on offer in addition to each rolling chassis. The purchaser of each showcar will be invited to add their own branding to the doors of the current works #97 GTE PRO car at a forthcoming WEC race of their choosing – obviously this must be in line with Aston Martin Racing’s sponsorship policy and subject to the space available.
The same branding will then be applied to the showcar, or near enough the same location on the DBR 1-2.
Each purchaser can bring up to ten VIP guests along to the race, and when it comes to taking delivery of their own (static) race car, Aston Martin Racing will donate at least two of their works drivers to attend a presentation of the car.
