Sporty new MG3 comes priced at less than £10,000

MG announced today that their all-new MG3 supermini will come priced at a maximum of £9,999 excluding options. The MG3 is SAIC Motor’s latest model, following on from the MG6 which has been grabbing all the headlines in the BTCC, courtesy of Jason Plato and Sam Tordoff.

Of course in many respects, you get what you pay for, but it’s still tremendous value for a car which wears the iconic MG name.

I guess it’s too late for us to cry foul about such brand leverage, we had our chance to keep the MG marque, but now it’s in the hands of a Chinese auto giant and we can only hope it prospers and eventually builds something true to the brand.

Meanwhile you can pick up a MG3 for as little as £8,399. The entry-level MG3 3TIME is powered by MG’s 105bhp VTi-TECH engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Prices increase to £9,299 for the MG3 3FORM, £9,549 for the MG3 3FORM SPORT and £9,999 for the MG3 3STYLE.

The top of the range MG3 3STYLE features 16-inch ‘Diamond’ alloy wheels, cruise control, automatic lights and wipers in addition to the air conditioning and DAB radio fitted to lesser models.

Following in the footsteps of the MINI and Fiat 500, MG are offering a huge range of colours, exterior graphics, interior colour packs and leather upholstery to personalise your MG3, all inspired by the British fashion industry.

The MG3 is a small, competitively priced supermini designed for younger drivers that will expose the (new) MG brand to a wider selection of people. It goes on sale from September 2013 at an MG dealer near you.
