Fresh from its world premiere at last weekend’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the all-new Spyker B6 Venator Spyder Concept will make its European debut at London’s Salon Privé.
The name ‘Venator’ is Latin for ‘Hunter,’ a nod back to Spyker’s Hunter fighter aircraft of the early 20th century.
The B6 Venator Spyder Concept is a compact 2-door convertible sports car and was designed by Spyker Cars CEO, Victor Muller. It’s powered by a rear-mid positioned V6 engine putting 375bhp through its rear wheels via a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Built with an all carbon-fibre body on an aluminium platform, it weighs less than 1400kg and is slightly shorter than an Aston Martin Vantage – measuring 4347 mm in length and 1882 mm wide (excluding mirrors).
Highlights include a ‘torpedo style’ ignition switch which lights up the dashboard as part of a pre-flight check, evoking the aviation spirit of Spyker. A milled aluminium engine start/stop button then ignites the V6 engine.
As is the norm with Spyker cars they avoid the use of plastic within the interior, using a mixture of turned aluminium for the fascia, milled dials and rich leather hides from the Royal Hulshof Dutch Tanneries.
Headlights are equipped with LED light rails, to give the car an aggressive stance while the brand’s axiom “Nulla tenaci invia est via” – which translates to “For the tenacious no road is impassable” – is shown on the rear fairings.
The Spyder is based on the B6 Venator Concept which was shown earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show, according to John Walton, the company’s Chief Commercial Officer “..reaction to the coupé version in Geneva was so overwhelmingly positive that we accelerated our initial plan to deliver the Spyder.”
The concept is currently in prototype form and will be developed further before going into production during late 2014. It will be sold in key markets including Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and India, followed by the US in early 2015, with a price point of around $150,000 (approx. £97,000).
Salon Privé runs from the 4th to 6th September at London’s Syon Park and you can purchase tickets [here] or by calling the Ticket Hotline on 0808 100 2205. Entry is fully inclusive of Pommery champagne, lobster luncheon, English afternoon tea and full access to all areas.
