Jaguar will reveal the all-new C-X17 SUV concept on the eve of next week’s Frankfurt Motor Show, and you can watch it ‘live’ here on SkiddMark.
But you don’t need to wait until Monday to find out what it looks like thanks to website Carscoops, who yesterday evening published the first official photo of Jaguar’s SUV.
Like BMW’s X5, the C-X17 has a front-end which is heavily derived from its saloon car sibling, and like its Bavarian competitor Jaguar has ensured it remains car-like – distancing it from the off-roader look of the Range Rover Sport.
Earlier in the week Jaguar described the C-X17 as “..a design study to introduce Jaguar’s new, highly-advanced, modular aluminium architecture.” This next lightweight architecture will be rolled out across the rest of the Jaguar range, as and when new models are released, which quite frankly cannot come too soon.
Jaguar’s F-TYPE, launched late last year, boasts a lightweight aluminium body structure which according to Jaguar provides “exceptional power-to-weight and torque-to-weight ratios”. But despite such lofty claims it still weighs over 200kg more than an equivalent Porsche 911. The architecture being introduced on the C-X17 aims to address this issue, although clearly it’s too late for the current generation F-TYPE.
Monday’s live broadcast will feature the full reveal, plus exclusive interviews with Jaguar executives and guests. Tune in at 17:10 CET or visit Jaguar’s Facebook page on Monday 9th September.
