Following the ferociously-quick Exige V6 Cup and its hardcore sibling the Exige V6 Cup R, Lotus have produced the slightly more civilised Elise S Cup R.
It’s powered by the same 217bhp mid-mounted, supercharged 1.8 litre 2ZR-FE engine fitted in the Elise S but in a track-only ‘Cup’ specification, complete with FIA-compliant rollcage, 6-point race harness and aerodynamically optimised body kit.
Performance is enhanced over the road-going Elise S thanks to a motorsport mapped ECU, while the aero kit comprises; front splitter, barge boards, winglets, rear diffuser, floor extensions and rear wing. Thanks to its extra downforce combined with adjustable dampers and springs, the Cup R is 4 seconds quicker per lap around an unnamed track.
Despite the extra motorsport gear, the Elise S Cup R weighs the same as the road car (at 924 kg). It comes fitted with a 6-speed manual gear box as standard, while forged alloy wheels are shod with Yokohama Advan Neova AD07 LTS tyres in 175/ 55 R16 at the front and 225/ 45 R17 at the rear.
Cars can be supplied in a variety of colour and trim options, including the vibrant yellow shown in the image above.
The Elise S Cup R is eligible for entry to the production class in the 2014 Lotus Cup series which operates around the world under the banners; Lotus Cup UK, Lotus Cup Europe, Lotus Cup Italia, Lotus Cup USA, Lotus Cup Japan, Lotus Cup Thailand, Lotus Cup China and Lotus Ladies Cup.
The race series is open to current and previous models including the Elise, Exige, Evora, 340R and 2-Eleven.
