Honda has some lofty ambitions for its next Civic Type R. Having remained a mostly sub-200bhp hatchback since it arrived on these shores back in 2001, the Type R is ready to rise above its humble origins and shoot for class honours.
In a tweet this morning, Honda UK announced a new Type R was on its way and “..it’s going to be fast!”
The new Honda Civic will be launched tomorrow at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA), but Honda has released the first exclusive photos of the new Civic this evening.
Honda’s Civic 237 bhp Type R MUGEN first emerged on the scene in 2010 – a hand-built, motorsport-derived hot hatch, with a 20-strong limited edition production run. But despite the appeal of its unique specification, only 16 cars were sold.
With the 9th generation Civic soon to be revealed at Frankfurt, Northampton-based MUGEN Euro have worked their magic again, producing a final version of the MUGEN Type R with even more power and torque.
Honda have provided us with a quick glimpse of the New European Civic, prior to its launch at the Frankfurt motor show next month.
The image shows the New Civic’s rear-end with its combination lighting that also works as an aerodynamic spoiler, managing air flow over the top and sides of the car. It looks to be something of an evolutionary change from the 8th generation Civic, which shocked us back in 2006 with its radical new profile and even more radical interior design.
Honda Racing Team has produced four short documentary films on its participation in the 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. Each film will focus on what drives the Honda Racing Team to achieve success in one of Britain’s biggest and most exciting race series. The first documentary, produced by leading short film label, Future Shorts, will be released in late August, ahead of Rounds 19-21 of the BTCC at Knockhill.
