You may not be a fan of Ken Block’s Gymkhana videos, but there’s no doubting their popularity, with Gymkhana 3 having now clocked up more than 36 million views on YouTube and becoming the most watched automotive video of all time. Well Gymkhana FOUR completed filming last week and will be hitting the interweb next Tuesday 16th August.
Over the weekend Ken Block unveiled his new racecar in its final livery – the Hybrid Function Hoon Vehicle (“H.F.H.V.”). Block described it as an “All new car, new livery, new awesome!”
In his announcement he also confirmed that his newest Ford Fiesta race car, also known by the nickname “the hybrid”, is designed as one car to do three tasks – gymkhana, stage rally and rally cross.
When we caught up with Ken Block in Pembrokeshire last month, we discovered first-hand what his Gymkhana FOUR racecar looked like, we even learned what it sounds like, but Ken remained tight-lipped over the exact details of its powerplant. All he would say is that it’s a ‘Hybrid’ and that it was just as much fun as his 700-bhp Gymkhana 3 Ford Fiesta.
Earlier today we brought you news about Ken Block’s latest plans for Gymkhana FOUR – most notably that he’ll be driving a ‘hybrid’ powered Ford. Ken is currently in the midst of testing for the shoot, therefore information on the exact configuration of this hybrid powerplant is still a closely guarded secret, so the next best thing would be some pictures, right? And how about some video as well?
Keep your eyes open during the next few months for signs of Ken Block’s new Gymkhana viral – Gymkhana FOUR is the next chapter in the massively successful web video series that sees Block perform his own brand of autocross through a tight and twisty series of cones and solid objects. Called Gymkhana (jim-kah-nuh), Ken’s hybrid version is performed at speed and with the maximum amount of hoonage.
It was the most gorgeous sunny day in London yesterday (8/4/2011), as we joined Ford at the Gymkhana Uncovered event for the launch of the new Codemasters rally game, DiRT3.
It’s a measure of just how important the video games industry has become these days, that when Codemasters decided to launch their new DiRT 3 rally game, they were able to join forces with Ford, one of the top-3 global car makers in a marketing partnership that includes the viral sensation, Ken Block.
