Cole Position: An insider’s view on the 2011 Race of Champions (ROAD Magazine Special)

This is precisely the kind of article I enjoy reading, a fly on the wall insight into a special event that most of us can only view from afar.

Created in 1988 by former Michèle Mouton, the only female WRC event winner, and Fredrik Johnsson, the Race of Champions has become the most eagerly-anticipated after party of the motorsport season. This year’s event, run on the 3rd and 4th December, returned to Dusseldorf’s ESPRIT Arena, the venue where relative newcomer Felipe Albuquerque took the overall ‘Champion of Champions’ cup in 2010.

Hybrid Function Hoon Vehicle plays the starring role in Gymkhana FOUR

Over the weekend Ken Block unveiled his new racecar in its final livery – the Hybrid Function Hoon Vehicle (“H.F.H.V.”). Block described it as an “All new car, new livery, new awesome!”

Earlier today we brought you news about Ken Block’s latest plans for Gymkhana FOUR – most notably that he’ll be driving a ‘hybrid’ powered Ford. Ken is currently in the midst of testing for the shoot, therefore information on the exact configuration of this hybrid powerplant is still a closely guarded secret, so the next best thing would be some pictures, right? And how about some video as well?

Gymkhana FOUR: Plug in and prepare for an electrifying ride..

Keep your eyes open during the next few months for signs of Ken Block’s new Gymkhana viral – Gymkhana FOUR is the next chapter in the massively successful web video series that sees Block perform his own brand of autocross through a tight and twisty series of cones and solid objects. Subaru’s Impreza Design Concept – what do you think?

Amidst all the glitzy sports car and hybrid-vehicle premieres at the LA Auto Show this week, you’d be forgiven for overlooking Subaru’s latest ‘concept’ model which broke cover yesterday. Subaru have experienced more than their fair share of difficulties trying to evolve their most popular model, and from our experience of Subaru’s recent concept vehicles we know there’s a strong likelihood of this Impreza Design Concept becoming the fully-fledged production model.

End of the road for the Turbo-Nutter?

As a lad growing up, I remember the pleasure that could be derived from the latest rally video game: whether it was the joy of executing the perfect hairpin on a dusty gravel track (one out of every 500 attempts you understand!), or the hair-raising excitement of blitzing through quaint French villages at unsociable speeds, it drew me in like a monkey to a car roof. Hell, even the frustration of stuffing the car into every single tree bordering a slippery snow course had a certain satisfaction to it.
