I should be used to it, after witnessing six previous generations of Volkswagen Golf, but somehow I still kid myself that the next one will be different.

It never is, although perhaps that’s not such a bad thing, because the Golf GTI remains the one car that every other car maker aspires to beat, and thus far it remains the benchmark sporting hatchback that does everything well, and some things exceptionally well.

ROAD 25: Peugeot Special – Motion & Emotion

Welcome, or should we say bienvenue to this très Gallic Peugeot special of ROAD Magazine. Peugeot’s current advertising slogan is ‘Motion & Emotion,’ which when you cut through the adman-speak hints at cars that are involving, ney, fun to drive, and live with.

Peugeot attempts to reinvent the GTi

It seems a risky strategy for Peugeot to claim that the legendary 205 GTi is back. After all, the company has cried ‘wolf’ many times before – 206 GTi, 207 GTi, 308 GTi.. none has been a patch on the sometimes lively, but always entertaining 205 GTi 1.9.

It doesn’t seem that long ago that the latest Clio Renaultsport would be automatically considered the best value performance hatch in its class. Whilst a decent Mini Cooper S used to set you back around £16,500 you could pick up a Clio Renaultsport Cup for a little under £14,000. Bargain. But the same is not so immediately true when it comes to the Clio Gordini.
