Last Friday, more than 300 of Ken Block’s closest friends, family, and VIPs got together at his X Games crib and watched Gymkhana FIVE. In the absence of any pirated copies hitting YouTube (yet), we have to applaud DC Shoes on their choice of attendees
The DC Shoes marketing machine is now in full swing. The date – July 9th 2012 – has been announced. The location – San Francisco – is known. And the first of many teaser videos has hit the web.
I gleaned a few hints about Gymkhana Five, when I interviewed Ken Block for our feature – ‘The Accidental Hero’, last December. Block, you’ll remember, is Chief Brand Officer of DC Shoes and the insanely talented driver in each of the four previous Gymkhana videos.
When we interviewed Ken Block last December, he was keen to point out that although known for his wild antics on track or stage (Gymkhana, X-Games and WRC), he drives like Miss Daisy on the road.
Ken Block’s 2012 season promo (Part 1) was a spoof of himself, with a little help from actor and comedian Nick Swardson. This time around the focus is on the cars – the all-new livery of the H.F.H.V. (Hybrid Function Hoon Vehicle) and Gymkhana World Tour Fiesta.
Over the weekend Ken Block unveiled his new racecar in its final livery – the Hybrid Function Hoon Vehicle (“H.F.H.V.”). Block described it as an “All new car, new livery, new awesome!”
In his announcement he also confirmed that his newest Ford Fiesta race car, also known by the nickname “the hybrid”, is designed as one car to do three tasks – gymkhana, stage rally and rally cross.
