The new MINI Paceman: It’s one small step for (Country)man..

Forty-three years ago, American astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the Moon. As he put his first foot on the ground, he made the historic declaration, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”.

I was reminded of this small piece of history, by the memorial service held to mark the passing of Armstrong in Washington DC, yesterday. But I was also prompted by MINI’s launch of its new Paceman.

Last year’s Paceman Concept, shown at the at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, was well received by the motoring press and public alike, so much so that BMW signed it off for a late-2012 production slot and deliveries in early 2013.

The celebrations continued well into the evening yesterday, as guests of MINI’s WRC Team launch were treated to an exuberant display of hooning by factory drivers Kris Meeke and Dani Sordo.

Exposed: MINI John Cooper Works WRC

The new MINI John Cooper Works WRC was officially launched at the MINI Plant in Oxford this morning, to a rousing welcome. The spotlight was initially on Hopkirk and Aaltonen as they drove onto the stage behind the wheel of the legendary Classic Mini Cooper S, then the guests and media representatives were treated to a first look at the MINI John Cooper Works WRC in its final World Championship design.

MINI launches its WRC Team

Today is a big day for MINI, as it officially launches its return to international rallying with the MINI WRC Team. At an event to be held at the MINI plant in Oxford later this morning, guests and rally icons will welcome the brand’s return to the sport with all the razmatazz of a Mike Tyson comeback.
