It’s that time of the year when those boffins from BMW put their little grey-cells together and devise an outstandingly clever solution… to a problem that nobody as yet was aware of. Last year it was those colour-coded BMW roundels, providing a means to show your true colours during the UK General Election.
BMW’s second teaser video for the new F10 M5 shows us a little more of the car in action on snow, together with an offer from BMW M GmbH’s CEO, Dr. Kay Segler, to ‘Send in Your Dreams’.
BMW’s forthcoming F10-based M5 is almost upon us, with first deliveries expected in autumn 2011, but the real ‘Daddy’ of the M car range is the M3. In the true vernacular of the term such an accolade is usually bestowed on the quickest or most powerful model, but I’m using it in its purest sense – Daddy, as in father, the progenitor and main ancestor of BMW’s M DNA.
In less than 48 hours from now we’ll be sitting in a production 1 Series M Coupé, getting to know it’s unique features and learning just how special M Division’s new entry-level model really is. Well this is the best motor racing news we’ve heard in a long time. The return of BMW to the DTM from 2012 is now a reality. The news was confirmed by the company during the DTM race at the Hockenheimring this weekend.
BMW’s 1 Series M Coupé is one of the most eagerly anticipated cars to arrive from BMW in the past decade, with the E92 M3 now sporting a 414-bhp V8 and costing well above £50,000 it hardly fits the role of “BMW’s entry level M car” any more. What was needed was a more affordable model, harking back to the very first E30 M3 and providing access to the M-power ladder from a more affordable and approachable package.
If you’re around and about in the UK during the next few weeks, then you might possibly spot BMW’s 1 Series M Coupé on the roads near BMW’s Bracknell HQ. If not then stay tuned during the next few days for first glimpses of the undisguised new baby M-car, showing off its unique burnt orange paintwork regarding which Dr. Kay Segler, CEO of BMW M GmbH, stated last month “This paint will make history”.
