Lotus in China, Malaysia and Indycars..

At this week’s Auto China motorshow in Beijing, Lotus have been showcasing a limited edition Evora GTE specially adapted for Chinese roads. Meanwhile new owner DRB-Hicom has confirmed the sportscar maker is not for sale – yet, and Lotus say they’ve raised their IndyCar commitment by reducing the number of cars it supports from five to three.

A Layperson’s Guide to the Formula One and Tata Communications deal

Last week Tata Communications announced a multi-year technology service and marketing agreement with Formula One Management (FOM), which will include web hosting and content delivery of Formula1.com, provision of Formula One’s private network and connectivity to all 20 Formula 1 race locations across the world supported by secure MPLS connectivity.

BMW Concept M135i set to appear at Geneva

Don’t get bogged down in the name – M135i – or try and correlate its powerplant with that of the previous generation 1 M. This is a straight six twin-turbocharged 1 Series from the new BMW M Performance range, that recently brought us the M550d and M50d X6/X5.

Toyota snatch Nürburgring Electric Car Lap Record from Peugeot (w/Video)

Electric-powered cars have only recently begun lapping Germany’s Nürburgring Norschleife and even then it was more to prove that their ability to lap the 20.8 km Green-Hell on a single charge. That was certainly the aim of the MINI E in April 2010 when it scorched around the lap in a record-breaking 9 minutes 51.45 seconds. No, we didn’t think that was terribly quick either, but at least it made it back to the pits before running out of charge. Ha ha!

I’m a great believer in the power of online video, for telling a story but also in reaching an audience beyond that which the written word can achieve. Consider how moving pictures can transcend the language barrier – even without subtitles, but we’ve also been observing the levels of engagement on SkiddPlayer of less-obvious viewers, such as women and 50-70 year olds.

Caterham unveils a new Supersport for 2011

A new Caterham Supersport was unveiled today, although you’d be forgiven for asking what’s new about a design that’s been around for more than 40 years. Caterham describe it as “..the first brand new addition to the world-renowned Seven range in two years”, although that probably only serves to confuse you even more, so let’s cut to the chase and outline exactly what the term ‘new’ applies to.
