Frank Stippler led that most familiar of formats at the end of an endurance race – an Audi formation finish – as the German manufacturer notched up yet another victory with the Phoenix Audi R8 LMS, this time a second consecutive success in GT racing at the Total 24 Hours of Spa.
2011 GT Academy winner, Jann Mardenborough, has never been to Spa-Francorchamps before. But during yesterday’s first practice session for this weekend’s 24 Hour race he was 6th fastest out of 66 cars. And he’s annoyed at not being higher up the time sheets.
Nissan seem to be following in the foot-steps of their arch nemesis, Porsche, with a range of GT-R versions to mark the 2011 model year. Granted, there’s still a long way to go before they catch up with the 26 variants of 911, but if it works for ze Germans, then why not for Japan’s most revered sports car maker.
There’s been rain showers aplenty as BMW’s M3 GT2 continues to dominate, followed by Porsche and Audi.
