Following the Insignia’s redesign earlier this month, Vauxhall have revealed a raft of design and chassis revisions for its range-topping VXR SuperSport. The 320bhp…
Opel will return to its roots in 2013, with two new single-make motorsport series – Opel ADAM Cup and Astra OPC Cup. The Opel Adam Cup will be run as part of the ADAC Rally Masters, with a specification closely matched to FIA R2 standards.
We all know about General Motors’ European troubles, where the Opel and Vauxhall brands operate. While GM posted a global profit last month of $2.3bn, compared with $2.2bn for the same period last year, losses in its European market could reach $1.8bn, up from $300m in 2011.
There’s little doubt about the 256bhp Mazda3 MPS’ main appeal in a sector awash with super-hatches. At £23,995 the MPS scores well in the value-for-money stakes against the £23,495 246bhp Ford Focus ST – itself something of a bargain, the £26,995 276bhp Vauxhall Astra GTC VXR and the £25,560 207bhp Volkswagen Golf GTI.
Following the enthusiastic response to Vauxhall’s Astra GTC, the Luton car maker has been quick to reveal the headline-grabbing VXR version, packing 276 bhp and a mighty 400 Nm of torque.
Vauxhall’s new Astra GTC will make a surprise debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, more than two months ahead of its official world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Details were revealed last night of Vauxhall’s eagerly anticipated model which was previewed as the GTC Paris Concept at last year’s Paris Motor Show.
Vauxhall are offering a £250 upgrade on its top-of-the range VXR Insignia which de-restricts its engine management system, allowing the car to achieve 170mph – although presumably not whilst heading along the M1 motorway near the company’s Luton HQ.
I have always found the Corsa VXR to be the most endearing of Vauxhall’s VX range – there’s an honesty about its performance that matches the way it looks on the road, a playful nature that makes a MINI Cooper S seem… well, a bit sensible and a Clio Cup feel like it’s trying too hard. Each has their place in the affections of the hot-hatch enthusiast, so it’s good to see Vauxhall continue developing the Corsa VXR with this new Nürburgring Edition.
These are the first official pictures of Vauxhall’s GTC Paris Concept, which gives the strongest hint yet to the Astra Sport Hatch’s successor and is set to cause a stir when it receives its debut on September 30 at the Paris Motor Show.
