Frankfurt 2011: New images of the Toyota FT-86 II Concept

Toyota continue the tease with its Ft-86 II Concept, but they’ve thoughtfully chosen to re-paint the show-car to help us distinguish between each motor show. First it was red, then black and now a burnt orange – answers on a postcard for what the concept will be wearing at the next show..

As a reminder, the FT-86 II Concept is Toyota’s new compact sports car created as a fitting legacy to the legendary Toyota Corolla AE86 – Hachi-Roku (Japanese for “eight-six”) – which in the past 28 years has become an icon of the Japanese drift scene.

The front engine, rear-wheel drive FT-86 II combines a free-revving boxer petrol engine (developed in conjunction with Subaru) and 6-speed manual transmission with light weight and a low centre of gravity for the optimum power-to-weight ratio.

Both powertrain and driving position have been set as low and as far back as possible providing for exploitable dynamics and maximising driving pleasure.

The production version of the FT-86 II should appear sometime in 2012 along with Scion FR-S, which will be produced for North American markets.
